It's true, I've signed up for my first marathon. What feels like hundreds of years ago, I was born in NYC, just off the Marathon route at a place called New York Hospital. I figured what better place to run my first marathon than the streets of New York City. Now, the most important thing - who am I running for and why...
I guess you could say that my relationship with Fred's team began with my father. I grew up in New York City because my father was in the midst of his medical training at Memorial Sloan Kettering as a Pediatric Hematologist-Oncologist (fancy name for a children's cancer doctor). My dad was an instrumental part of my life, and perhaps most importantly, taught me the importance of humor. It's crazy to think that this New Years will mark 15 years since my father unexpectedly passed away. At times, it feels like it was yesterday.
As I embark on my first marathon, there was never a question as to the team and mission I'd run for. I'm running with Fred's team in honor of dad and his relentless focus on eradicating pediatric cancer. In fact, my dad ran the NYC marathon himself back in 1983 when he was working at Memorial Sloan Kettering. Yes, I'm doing everything I can to beat his time.
I, my father, the patients, MSK physicians, families, friends, and Fred's team are so thankful for any donation you can provide in support of this incredible organization, and to help bring value to the many many miles I'm running for this race.
Thank you SO much, and I can't wait to keep you updated on our progress along the way.
I love you all.
