Eliza Beckerman-Lee
Sloan Kettering has always been a part of my life, and it's been a dream of mine to run the NYC marathon and give back to a place that has given my family so much. MSK saved my sister's life, both my grandmothers, and gave me world-class treatment earlier this year.
My sister, Sophie, was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma before she turned 2, and had her right eye removed to save her life. Thanks to Dr. David Abramson and the incredible team at MSK, she is nearly 26 years cancer free. Three of my grandparents have been treated at MSK, and I am grateful to say that both my grandmothers are in remission from breast cancer.
In high school, my sister and I became very involved in the pediatric cancer world, and I raised over $10,000 for MSK Pediatrics through the Kids Walk for Kids with Cancer. I also formed life-long bonds with children and families facing challenges that no parent or child should ever have to experience. Many of those kids were taken from us too soon. Some of them are lucky, like my sister. Every donation helps fund lifesaving research to help these children grow up and life long, health lives.
As if I didn't already have enough reasons to care about this cause, one month after I turned 24, doctor's found a tumor in my bladder. I was treated at MSK and I am extremely lucky and grateful that it was benign. I was already running for my family and friends, but now I'm running for myself too. As a patient at MSK, I benefit from the incredible doctors, nurses, administration, and cutting-edge research.
I am so honored to run my first marathon with Fred's Team, and raise money for the hospital that has been such a key part of my life.
I’m taking on the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon with Fred’s Team, the official running program of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). My goal is to raise as much as I can to support groundbreaking cancer research at MSK, and your donation will give me a boost as I train for my race.
