Molly Pontius
When I was in college I got a call no one wants to get. My mom was diagnosed with lung cancer. My mom is my biggest role model and hero. It's hard to explain how completely helpless a call like that makes you feel. I am not a doctor or a nurse or a medical professional and I had no idea how to find a cure for cancer myself. My family and I were unbelievably lucky to have a fantastic medical team behind her and that we caught it early. I am happy to say that she has been cancer free for almost 6 years. I am very aware that not all stories have happy endings like my families. My best friend lost her father Charlie to cancer 2 years ago, Charlie was like a second father to me and one of my biggest mentors and cheerleaders. Its impossible to not feel helpless when your affected by cancer, but I realized that while I cant cure cancer with my own two hands, I can help in a different way! That is why I am running the New York City Marathon.
I’m taking on the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon with Fred’s Team, the official running program of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). My goal is to raise as much as I can to support groundbreaking cancer research at MSK, and your donation will give me a boost as I train for my race.
100% OF YOUR DONATION SUPPORTS RESEARCH
Named in honor of New York City Marathon co-founder and MSK patient Fred Lebow, Fred’s Team brings together passionate runners and supporters to make progress against cancer. Since 1995, Fred’s Team participants have raised over $110 million. 100% of funds raised go directly into MSK labs, where doctors and scientists have expertise in more than 400 types of cancer and work every day to find new cures.
