Kenneth Yque
my father.
Running has always given me a sense of clarity and accomplishment. I've always loved it. I've ran in bad times and in good times and at all stages of my life from high school to college then to my wedding day, and in 2022, becoming a father.
Recently, I've given more thoughts around family. My father passed away when I was 6 from brain cancer. He fought as long as he could but eventually it took him from us. It completely gutted my family to say the least. I understood what was happening, but it wasn't until later in life, especially now being a father, how much its affected me everyday. You could argue that his passing made me the person I am today, but I would trade anything to have had the chance to grow up and be mentored by him.
I will be running with Fred's Team, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center's (MSK) running program, raising money to fuel cancer research and hopefully some day find a cure. I run in honor of my father whose life was taken to early, but also to all those have been effected by this horrible disease including my colleague's mother, Elizabeth Brocker, a caring and loving mother and wife.
