Justin Pryor
Martin Roland Pryor, 62, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023 in Darien, Connecticut.
Martin was born the youngest of two children to Roland & Nancy Pryor (née Martin) on January 24, 1961 in Bartlesville, OK. He attended College High School, where he was a decorated three-sport athlete, including captain and quarterback of the football team. He graduated in 1979 and then attended the University of Kansas where he earned his BS in Business Administration. At KU, he walked on to the football team his freshman year, was a member of Beta Theta Pi, and was the senior class President. He loved his alma mater, and endowed the Martin R. Pryor Scholarship to support Oklahoma students aspiring in business at KU. After graduating in 1983, he then went on to earn his MBA from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University, where he met the love of his life, Megan Cochran.
Martin and Megan were married on May 2, 1987 in Dallas, TX and moved to Connecticut later that year, where Martin was a VP at J.P. Morgan, then a Managing Director at Citigroup and other banks in the New York City area. They welcomed their first son, Justin, in 1993. In 1995, they welcomed their daughter, Lauren, and in 1999, their son, Mitchell. Martin loved his children immensely, and spent many years coaching and cheering them on in baseball, lacrosse, football, and more. He instilled in them a confidence to pursue their dreams, and he enjoyed nothing more than watching them “learn to fly.”
Martin was an avid golfer and was passionate about spending time on the course with his family and friends. He loved competing in tournaments, such as Father-Sons and Club Championships, as well as venturing to renowned courses in the U.S. and abroad. While he was a truly exceptional player, he always welcomed and encouraged new players and shared his love of the game freely.
Martin is preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Nancy Pryor, his beloved dogs, Gigi and Putter, and his cat, Trina.
Martin is survived by his wife of 36 years, Megan Cochran Pryor, his children, Justin Martin Pryor (Lindsey Zamiela Pryor), Lauren Pryor Joyce (Ryan Joyce), and Mitchell Robert Pryor, his sister, Holly Pryor Caskey (Dan Caskey), and his dog, Bunker.
Martin exemplified a life well-lived and leaves a legacy of deep family commitment, unwavering kindness, and unconditional love for his family and friends he called family.
Donations made in Martin's memory will support Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center research.
