Harry Shock
I’m running the 2024 New York City Marathon with Fred’s Team. I’m taking on this insane task, alongside a group of Katie’s friends and family, to raise money for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and to honor Katie’s life, love, and strength.
Our journey with Fred’s Team began in 2019 when Katie, fresh off her first round of chemo, ran a half marathon to fundraise for the very hospital that was caring for her. In 2022, I followed suit and ran the NYC Half Marathon with Fred’s Team with Katie cheering me on. Now, in 2024, almost a year after losing Katie, I’m running the full marathon to remember her and to honor the incredible doctors, nurses, and hospital staff from MSK.
I remember one morning last November, emerging from the hospital to grab coffee only to find 1st Ave blocked for the 2023 marathon. It was inspiring and overwhelming watching over 50,000 runners make their way through the course with countless fans cheering them on. In some way I think I knew then that I’d be running the same course one year later.
100% OF YOUR DONATION SUPPORTS RESEARCH
Any dollar amount, big or small, means the world to me. Every cent will go to supporting the amazing doctors and scientists working to find cures and early detection methods for over 400 types of cancer. Donations through the MSK website are tax deductible and many employers offer matching gifts.
Thank you all so much for your love and support over the past year. I wouldn't be standing here (or running) without you.
