I am so excited to be running the 2024 New York City Marathon with Fred’s Team to raise money for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, a cause near and dear to my heart.
This year marks a particularly special milestone for me and my family. 20 years ago, my mom passed away after a long battle of breast cancer and a rare and aggressive brain tumor, Glioblastoma. It was exactly 20 years earlier, to the day, that my mom’s brother passed away from that very same brain tumor.
My mom underwent various surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation treatments at MSK and my family is forever grateful for the care they provided. All of the doctors who treated my mom were incredible in their passion, skill and relentless pursuit of finding a cure. MSK offered our family hope during one of the most difficult times in our lives, the work they’ve done and continue to do is literally saving lives.
For as long as I can remember, dragonflies have symbolized my mom, a subtle reminder that she is always with me. During my first run of this training block, a dragonfly flew right by my shoulder and continued to linger around me throughout the entirety of that run. It was at that exact moment, I knew I made the right decision to run the NYC Marathon again.
I appreciate any donations in support of my journey ahead as the Bloomberg 1000 Team supports MSK in their continued efforts once and for all to find a cure to cancer. 100% of funds raised go directly into MSK labs, where doctors and scientists have expertise in more than 400 types of cancer and work every day to find new cures.
I will be running this year’s race in honor of my Mom and Uncle as a way to keep their spirit alive. If I can raise enough money to prevent one family from the heartbreak we went through, then I’ll consider it a success. And someday we’ll have a world without cancer, but until then I’ll keep running. 🧡🏃🏼♀
