Valerie Monsen
I’m taking on the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon with Fred’s Team, the official running program of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). My goal is to raise as much as I can to support groundbreaking breast cancer research at MSK, and your donation will give me a boost as I train for my race.
Why I chose to support MSK Breast Cancer Research:
This year I qualified seperately of the charity program, but I wanted to make sure running this was more than just a marathon. I wanted to make sure this has a bigger purpose. This is why I chose to fundraise for MSK Cancer Center:
The first time I heard the words uttered to me "I have Breast Cancer" was by my best friend, when we were only 20 years old. This was the scariest moment of my life, until she told me that it was happening again at just 26 years old. Her doctors and surgeries that supported her the first round of cancer and 5 years of her remission were at MSK and they helped her live a cancer-free life until it came back - and we are now again fighting her fight.
One day, I hope that this research will make the scary words my best friend had said to me twice, not so scary anymore. I hope no one will have to watch their family and friends deal with this burden of this disease. I hope that we'll have an end all, be all cure for Breast Cancer and all Cancers.
