Stop the ban on transgender military personnel

Trump’s so-called transgender military “ban” is an affront to the thousands of transgender service members who are currently serving our country, and the thousands of transgender people who want to serve. For decades, transgender people were forced to serve in the closet. But in 2016 the Obama Administration announced a plan to ensure that transgender service members could serve openly and get the healthcare services they needed.

Now, the Trump Administration is returning to the discriminatory policy of forcing transgender people to choose between openly living in their gender or continuing their dedicated military service.

This ban has nothing to do with how transgender people serve in the military and everything to do with discrimination.

To stop this ban, we need Congress to step up. Take action today and demand your elected officials protect transgender service members from this destructive policy.

All service members serve with dignity and honor to protect our country -- and you owe it to your constituents to protect those serving, and those who want to serve -- no matter their gender or personal identity.

This ban denies the recognition of current and retired senior leaders across all four military branches who have decried the ban and acknowledged that the service of transgender people benefits the military and has no negative impact on unit cohesion or morale.

This ban also directly uproots the lives and careers of approximately 9,000 current service members and puts into jeopardy the lives of thousands of military teams who rely on these highly-trained service members, and, ultimately -- threatens our national security.

This ban has nothing to do with how transgender people serve in the military and everything to do with discrimination. The Supreme Court's decision shows that our courts are failing in their duty to check the administration's abuse of power.
