S3067 on Transgender Policies in Schools Coming Up for Vote

TRANSGENDER ACTIVISTS ARE SEEKING TO OVERRIDE LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN AN ATTEMPT TO FORCE THE COMMISSIONER OF EDUCATION TO SET LIBERAL AND BROAD SWEEPING “GUIDELINES” IN FAVOR OF TRANSGENDERED STUDENTS.

BILL TO BE VOTED ON BY FULL SENATE IN COMING WEEKS. ACTION REQUIRED!

The bill is written heavily in favor of the TRANSGENDERED student population and seeks to give them special status in almost all aspects of student life.  Some of our primary concerns with the bill as it is written are as follows:

1) Violation of student privacy. This bill requires that the guidelines adopted dictate that students use the showers, locker rooms, and overnight accommodations consistent with their gender identity. That violates the well-established privacy rights of other students who rightfully expect not to be seen in a state of undress by a member of the opposite biological sex.

2) Violation of free speech. This bill would require students, under threat of punishment, to use the school’s preferred terminology and pronouns for transgender students. The U.S. Supreme Court has consistent held that students do not shed their constitutional rights at the schoolhouse door and cannot be compelled to communicate messages dictated by school officials.

3) Violation of parental rights. This bill could result in schools being told to withhold important information from parents and guardians about their child. Parents have the right to know if their child is struggling with gender identity. In fact, who better to help a child address these questions than their parents. The Supreme Court has held that the right of parents to direct the upbringing of their children is a “fundamental right” of the highest order.
