Call Congress Today: Tell Them to Protect the Prevention and

Public Health Fund

Legislators in the Senate and House are currently negotiating longer-term extensions to the payroll tax, federal unemployment benefits, and Medicare reimbursement for physicians (the "doc fix"). A just-released plan would increase doctors’ Medicare reimbursement by dramatically cutting the Prevention and Public Health Fund.

Prevention is critical to fixing our health care system. We only have until tomorrow (Thursday, February 16) to let our legislators know that the Prevention Fund should not be used as an offset.

Please contact your Senators and House Member and urge them to protect the Fund. Contact your legislators by calling the Capitol Hill switchboard at 202-224-3121 or using the zip code locator below to find their office phone numbers.

Tell Them:

  • We cannot sacrifice prevention. Support the Prevention and Public Health Fund and oppose any efforts to reduce, eliminate or divert its funding to pay for the Medicare doc fix.
  • The Fund is supporting emerging and innovative prevention efforts happening right now across the country.
  • It doesn’t make sense to cut prevention to pay for medical care. It’s the opposite approach to what is needed to help reducing costs. Chronic diseases are driving the increase in Medicare costs, accounting for 70 percent of all deaths and 75 percent of all Medicare spending.
