Contact Your Representative: Tell Them to Reject Cuts to Mental Health Services
A spending bill now before the House of Representatives would deliver a severe and crippling blow to mental health services and supports. The legislation (H.R. 3070), which funds the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services and Education, cuts mental health funding by nearly 25 percent. That would place funding at the same level as 2000.
The brunt of the cuts would be borne by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Such deep and severe cuts would harm SAMHSA-funded community mental health services and prevention programs for children and adults, increasing unmet needs. It is troubling that the House would single out mental health for such deep cuts at a time when states have cut back funding for mental health care by $3.4 billion over the last three years.
Lawmakers will soon make final decisions on the bill.
Therefore, it is critical that you contact your House member today and tell him/her to reject these crippling cuts.
