Ovarian Cancer Canada

Barb and her grand children

Hello, I’m Barbara Vervaeke – wife, mom and proud grandmother of “The Fabulous Five”.

In January 2000, I was diagnosed with Stage 3 ovarian cancer. The prognosis was poor, but after aggressive treatment and five years of regular checkups, I received the incredible news that there was no evidence of the disease.

I never thought I’d see my first grandchild, let alone my 65th birthday this December. Yet here I am today – a well woman – to share my story with you, and to let you know there is hope.

With my good health, I feel a responsibility to give back. That’s why I’m an active volunteer with Ovarian Cancer Canada, and part of their 2017 Holiday Appeal.

Please join me in supporting this fundraising campaign. Let’s strive together towards a future without ovarian cancer. Thank you.

Barb and her husband

Hi, I’m Wayne – also known as “Mr. Barb”. We’ve been married 46 years, and she’s the love of my life.

As a long distance truck driver, I’ve been down many roads. But the longest by far was when Barb received the shocking news she had advanced ovarian cancer.

Early on, we learned about Ovarian Cancer Canada, and I’m so glad we did. Barb will be the first to tell you the wealth of information she got from the organization really helped, especially at a time when everything was just overwhelming.

Throughout Barb’s journey to wellness, we had tremendous support from our family, friends, co-workers and faith community. It was reassuring to know the folks at Ovarian Cancer Canada were there for us too – just like they are for thousands of women and their families who are dealing with this disease now.

Please give what you can to this important cause – to provide support, raise awareness and fund research. I know it will be appreciated.
