April 20 is Equal Pay Day, marking the day the average woman's wages finally catch up with what the average man earned in 2009. There’s a $10,622 gap between the median yearly earnings of men and women. That’s $10,622 missing from a woman’s income each year. Without the wage gap, how would your life be different?
In these tough economic times, the wage gap compounds the hardship for families, especially those headed by single mothers or families who rely solely on female earnings because of high rates of unemployment.
Please stand with women and their families today and urge your Senators to quickly pass the Paycheck Fairness Act.
Dear [Decision Maker],
Today is Equal Pay Day, marking the day the average woman's wages finally catch up with what the average man earned in 2009. On this day, I urge you to take immediate action on pay equity by passing the Paycheck Fairness Act without any weakening amendment. This legislation will provide much needed improvements to current laws and require the federal government to be more proactive in addressing wage discrimination.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP]
