Maryum “May May” Ali Serves as Ambassador of 2021 Virtual Parkinson’s Unity Walk

Kingston, N.J., March 2, 2021 - The Parkinson Alliance announced today the role of Maryum “May May” Ali as Ambassador of the 2021 Virtual Parkinson’s Unity Walk.

Parkinson's Unity Walk, the largest single-day grassroots fundraiser for Parkinson's disease research in the country, is a virtual event again in 2021. The Unity Walk experience is no longer a one-day event, but a multi-month interactive build to Unity Walk Day on Saturday, April 24th, 2021. The digital experience centers on engagement, exploration, and participation in several digital activities.

The overarching goal is to establish the 2021 Virtual Unity Walk event experience as a premiere resource for the Parkinson’s community. Our new digital platform will reach more people than ever before, both geographically, expanding beyond the metropolitan area, and as a live web resource year-round.

Maryum "May May" Ali will serve as Ambassador for the event. She will co-host Unity Walk Day videos alongside Parkinson Alliance President & CEO Carol J. Walton. She will also champion a new digital interactive: My Story Poetry Corner, which encourages members of the Parkinson’s community to share their stories and was inspired by May May’s annual poetry reading at the Unity Walk.

For the past twenty years, May May has been a spokesperson for the Parkinson’s Unity Walk, helping to bring Parkinson's disease awareness and the importance of research to the forefront.

When Maryum "May May" Ali was a child, her father Muhammad Ali would often ask her, "What is your purpose?" May May would give the same response, "I want to help people." May May's efforts to fulfill her purpose have manifested in a myriad of ways throughout her life.

The Parkinson Alliance and Parkinson Unity Walk are grateful to Maryum "May May" Ali for her years of involvement, and are delighted to name her this year’s Unity Walk Ambassador.
