E-mail Legislators About Hunger Bills in Committees

Over the next two weeks, legislative hearings are scheduled for two of our priority bills. On Tuesday, May 28th, the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing will hear testimony on the SNAP Gap bill. This bill aims to remove barriers that are keeping approximately 700,000 people in Massachusetts who may be struggling to put food on the table from enrolling in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). And on Monday June 3rd, the Joint Committee on Education will consider Breakfast After the Bell legislation, which seeks to ensure that 150,000 more students have the opportunity to start the day ready to learn after a healthy breakfast.

Send an e-mail to your legislators telling them why hunger is important to you and asking for their support on these two bills.

End Hunger: Support Closing the SNAP Gap and Breakfast After the Bell

Dear [Decision Maker],

I believe no one in Massachusetts should go hungry. Unfortunately, 1 in 10 residents of our state is food insecure.

As a constituent, I urge you to prioritize legislation that will ensure that everyone in Massachusetts can get affordable, healthy food for their families.
I'm asking that you:

1. Remove administrative barriers to critical programs by supporting An Act Improving Public Health Through a Common Application for Core Food, Health and Safety-Net Programs (S.678 & H.1173). Please urge the Joint Committee on Education to report favorably on this bill after their hearing on May 28th.

2. Ensure that children get the nutrition they need to learn by supporting An Act Regarding Breakfast After the Bell (S.267 & H.591). Please urge the Joint Committee on Education to report favorably on this bill after their hearing on June 3rd.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
