U.S. CapitolCall Today: Ask Your Members of Congress to Sign on as a Co-Sponsor of the EAT for Health Act

Please take a minute to call your members of Congress and ask them to sign on as an original co-sponsor of the EAT for Health Act. Please be polite and encouraging. Use the following talking points as a guide:

    • I am calling as a constituent to urge you to sign on as an original co-sponsor of the EAT for Health Act.
    • The need to improve and increase medical nutrition education has been cited by professional groups, scientific publications, and a congressional mandate.
    • Seven out of ten deaths among Americans each year are from chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes that can be prevented and treated through proper nutrition and other lifestyle changes.
    • The vast majority of physicians feel that nutrition counseling should be part of primary care visits, but very few feel qualified to offer it.
    • A recent survey found that only 27 percent of U.S. medical schools provide the minimum 25 hours of nutrition education recommended by the National Academies of Science.
    • Please co-sponsor the EAT for Health Act and do everything you can to ensure its passage.
