U.S. CapitolCall Today: Tell Your Senators Safe Cosmetics Means No Animal Testing

Please take a moment to call your senators respectfully urge them to include language in the Personal Care Products Safety Act (S.1014), introduced by Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Susan Collins, to require companies to use human-relevant, nonanimal testing approaches and ban the sale and import of animal tested cosmetics. Please be polite and encouraging. Use the following talking points as a guide:

  • I am calling as a constituent to urge you to withhold your support for the Personal Care Products Safety Act (S.1014), introduced by Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Susan Collins, unless it contains language requiring companies to use human-relevant, nonanimal testing approaches and ban the sale and import of animal tested cosmetics.
  • If enacted as currently drafted, the Personal Care Products Safety Act will delay protection from dangerous chemicals by increasing the use of scientifically inferior animal tests.
  • More efficient and cost-effective nonanimal testing methods are widely available.
  • The European Union, India, and Israel have already banned the sale and import of animal tested cosmetics recognizing that the best way to assess the safety of these products is by moving away from animals tests.
  • A ban on animal tested cosmetics will allow the American cosmetic industry to remain competitive in a changing global market that increasingly requires nonanimal safety tests.
    • Three out of four Americans favor a ban on animal tested cosmetics.
    • More than 500 cosmetics brands in North America do not test final products, formulations, or ingredients using animals.
