Urge Your Member of Congress and Senator to Support HR 4855, the SNAP Healthy Incentives Act

healthy food in hospitals

Americans who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly called food stamps, are more likely to suffer and die from almost every diet related illness, including heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. According to national health statistics, 44 percent of adults who participate in SNAP are obese, and only about half eat the government’s recommended amount of fiber. This is a reflection of diets comprised of large amounts of meat, cheese, and junk food with very little fruits and vegetables. The Senate and House Agriculture Committees responsible for the reauthorization of SNAP have so far failed to propose anything that would start to truly tackle this health crisis.

Please e-mail your federal Representative and Senators and ask that they ensure that HR4855 moves forward.
