Food for Life Instructor Joanne Irwin
Joanne’s professional career included elementary teaching, child protective social work, and school counseling. Additionally, Joanne presented parent education workshops for 17 years and co-facilitated bereavement support groups.
However, woven throughout her professional career has been a long-held interest in health and nutrition. Years ago her son said, “Mom, you’re always sending us articles on food and health. Why don’t you do something with that?” Her passion found expression when she was accepted as an instructor with The Cancer Project in 2008. In addition to presenting the Food for Life Nutrition and Cooking Class series, Joanne offers private cooking classes in her home. To view her personal website, visit www.PlantBasedNana.com.
Why did you become a Food for Life instructor? "I became a Food for Life instructor because of the difference it makes in people’s lives! Hearing the following comments makes teaching so rewarding and gratifying: "My cholesterol dropped 80 points." "I lost 12 pounds and was able to get off one of my diabetes medications." "My blood pressure is now normal." "I feel lighter and have more energy." "This program saved my life.""
