End Late-Term & Dismemberment Abortion in PA

Senate Bill 3 - End Late-Term and Dismemberment Abortion

Support SB3 & HB77: Fix PA's Outdated Abortion Law

Will Lydia Jackson - PA PreemiesDid you know Pennsylvania permits elective abortion all the way through the first SIX months of pregnancy? PA also allows a controversial abortion procedure that let's an unborn bleed to death by literally tearing the baby apart limb by limb.

Current PA law is simply outdated; last changed in the 1980’s. Since that time:

  • Many premature babies born at 24 weeks or earlier are now thriving. Nearly two-thirds of babies born at 24 weeks and one-third of those born at 23 weeks now survive. Kids like Jackson and Will (pictured here), born in PA at 24 weeks, are now not only surviving but thriving.
  • Ultrasound technology has advanced. We are now able to see into the womb using 3-D ultrasound and other prenatal medical enhancements.
  • Anesthesia is given to unborn babies as part of the innovations with fetal surgery. As early as 18 weeks in pregnancy, medical advancements have made possible surgical procedures while the baby is still in the womb.
  • The risks to the health of the mother with late-term abortions are more well-known. A woman is 91 times more likely to die from an abortion at 21 weeks versus a first-trimester abortion. The largest abortion business – Planned Parenthood - even agrees that abortion becomes riskier later in pregnancy. “The risks [of surgical abortion] increase the longer you are pregnant. They also increase if you have sedation or general anesthesia [which would be necessary at or after 20 weeks gestation].”
  • Fewer Pennsylvania abortionists are using the barbaric dismemberment procedure. This gruesome procedure is down 55% since 2010 yet it still was used in Pennsylvania on women over 1,500 times in 2014.

The United States is one of only seven nations to allow elective late-term abortions past 20 weeks of pregnancy. That’s why 20 states have already taken action to update their laws to end late-term abortion past the first five-months of pregnancy.

Thankfully, legislation has been introduced to updated Pennsylvania abortion law.

SB3 & HB77 would do two things:

1) End late-term abortions by updating the legal abortion limit to 20 weeks of pregnancy and

2) End the barbaric abortion procedure of tearing a baby apart by its limbs, also called dismemberment abortion.

Show your compassion right now by sending an email to your State Representative and State Senator urging them to support these improvements by passing SB3 & HB77.
