Recently, a proactive bill was introduced in the House to address health disparities and promote health equity. The Health Equity and Accountability Act of 2018 (HEAA) is a comprehensive bill that would focus on eliminating health inequalities, including their intersections with racial and ethnic identities, immigration status, age, disability, gender, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, language, and socio-economic status. This bill would prioritize communities that have faced systemic barriers to health care.
This week, we are asking you to call your representatives to ask them to be a cosponsor to the bill. Additional information and resources about the bill can be found here.
I am a physician and a constituent in Representative ________________’s district. As a medical professional, I want all of my patients to have access to quality health care, but I know that some of my patients face additional barriers to care because of their identity, including their race, gender identity, immigration status, or socio-economic status. The Health Equity and Accountability Act (HEAA) is an important bill that would work to address many of these health inequalities in a comprehensive and integrated manner.
Please ask Representative ___________________ to cosponsor HEAA and work on solutions to eliminate disparities in health care.
