The Trump administration has moved to rescind asylum protections from immigrants who previously were in protected classes, including victims of domestic violence and gang violence. This announcement comes on the heels of the administration separating parents of asylum seekers from their children in order to “deter” families from coming to the US to seek asylum.

As Congress considers potential immigration reform, this week please contact your senators to include protection for asylum seekers.

Suggested Script:

I am a physician and a constituent in Senator ______________’s state. As a health care provider and someone who cares about immigrants fleeing violent situations, I am appalled at the current administration’s callous treatment of asylum seekers who are trying to remove themselves and their children from dangerous situations. No one should endure physical, sexual or emotional abuse, nor should they be separated from their children while seeking protection.
