Through this program and your support, more than $26 million has been invested to fund more than 503 innovative discovery stage research projects since 1981.

You support the education of healthcare professionals to help ensure Canadians affected by Parkinson’s disease receive a consistent, timely and appropriate care and treatment.

In 2012, Parkinson Canada worked collaboratively with Canadian movement disorder specialists to develop and publish the first Canadian Guidelines on Parkinson’s Disease to improve standards of care for all individuals affected by Parkinson’s disease in Canada. Now the first accredited online learning module for family doctors and other health professionals is available, with other modules being developed thanks to support from donors like you.

You help to drive policy at the federal and provincial level to ensure Parkinson’s disease is recognized as a health priority and improve the lives of people affected by this disease.

Through leadership of Neurological Health Charities Canada, Parkinson Canada helped secure $15 million in funding for the National Population Health Study of Neurological Conditions to help identify the depth, breadth and impact of brain conditions in Canada. Within this study, Parkinson’s disease was included in 17 of the 18 research projects. Findings from the study are now available online in a report called Mapping Connections.
