Thank Your Senator for Supporting Safer Chemicals

Current laws are not protecting us from toxic chemical exposure. Right now, chemicals are allowed to enter our homes, workplaces, and communities with little or no testing for human toxicity. Among the chemicals found widely in consumer products are Bisphenol A (BPA), Perfluorochemicals (PFCs), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), which have been linked with disruption of the endocrine system, cancer, behavioral problems, and other health effects.

These chemicals are ending up in our bodies. PSR’s 2009 report, Hazardous Chemicals in Health Care, documented industrial chemical exposure in the bodies of 20 out of 20 healthcare professionals tested.

A bill addressing the shortcomings of current chemicals policy, the Safe Chemicals Act of 2011, has been introduced in the Senate. The bill aims to protect people from harmful chemicals by overhauling the outdated Toxic Substances Control Act. Your senator is a co-sponsor of this bill. Please make a call today to thank them for their leadership.

Current Co-Sponsors:
Barbara Boxer (California)
Richard Durbin (Illinois)
Al Franken (Minnesota)
Amy Klobuchar (Minnesota)
Robert Menendez (New Jersey)
Charles Schumer (New York)
Kirsten Gillibrand (New York)
