Right now the Super Committee in Congress is developing plans to cut at least $1.5 trillion in spending over the next 10 years.  What we decide to cut will speak to our priorities as a country. Many of the measures under consideration will have significant impacts our communities. Some possible decisions, however, represent cuts that are in our national interest. Make a call now and be sure to log the call with us so we know which Representatives to follow-up with.

I am a constituent of Representative [insert name] and I want to urge him/her to sign-on to a letter regarding spending cuts. Representative Markey is ciruclating a letter that calls for $200 billion in reductions from the country’s nuclear weapons budget. This is an important issue for me and my community in [insert city/town where you reside].

Additional Talking Points:

Twenty years after the end of the Cold War, nuclear weapons continue to drain our budget. I hope that my representative will sign Rep. Markey’s letter.

We can not build real security for our nation and our district without challenging wasteful military spending especially on outdated unnecessary weapons such as our nuclear aresnenal designed to fight an enemy that no longer exits.
