What is a Riley Dance Marathon?

Dance Marathon is a national Children’s Miracle Network program that concentrates on year-round fundraising with the focus of helping kids at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health.  The fundraising and event planning culminates in a continuous, multi-hour event which blends games, music, dancing, Riley family stories and philanthropy.  Students are on their feet the entire marathon to stand for those who can’t. College and high school students relish the experience knowing they have generated funds to support life-saving care for thousands of kids every year at Riley Hospital.

In Indiana, more than 60 high schools and colleges participate in Dance Marathon. Across the nation, more than 350 schools participate for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.  Riley Hospital for Children is Indiana’s only Children’s Miracle Network hospital.

Riley kids are the inspiration for dance marathons.  Through powerful testimonials, Riley kids and their families spread the word about the importance of fundraising for Indiana’s only comprehensive children’s hospital.

Dance Marathon is a student driven event offering opportunities to develop leadership skills that benefit students for their lifetime. Students help by volunteering as committee members or dance marathon executive leaders.  Additionally, each dancer raises money through donation requests, sponsorships, and event participation to raise money for the children at Riley Hospital.  The dance marathon event is held as a celebration to signify the fundraising and awareness events throughout that DM year.

Dance Marathons are held year round when school calendars permit.  Marathons vary from 4 to 36 hours in length.  Most high school marathons are between 4 to 6 hours in length, while collegiate marathons can vary between 4 to 36 hours.
