This year I will be participating in my seventh, and final, Dance Marathon benefiting Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. This year I am so excited to be serving as the Director of Corporate Relations.
What is Indiana University Dance Marathon?
Indiana University Dance Marathon (IUDM) is a 36 hour event that benefits Riley Hospital for Children. Around 4,000 Indiana University students participate in this event which includes: by learning a line dance, playing games, and listening to inspiring stories told by families from Riley Hospital for Children. IUDM includes so much more than just the 36 hour event itself. Outside of the 36 hour event I participate through being the Director of Corporate Relations.
What does the Director of Corporate Relations do?
As the Director of Corporate Relations, I do many things throughout the year. I am tasked with securing all of IUDM's corporate partnerships and stewarding their donations throughout the year. I could not do this alone! This year I have the amazing opportunity to lead and inspire a group of over 60 fantastic individuals. As a committiee, we have the unique opportunity to work with all of IUDM throughout the year in securing corporate partners for Riley Hospital.
What does the money IUDM raises go to?
The money IUDM raised in the past went to the Ryan White Center for Infectious Disease endowment. IUDM's efforts have made the Ryan White Center for Infectious Disease self sustaining. Today, the money goes towards research through the Herman B. Wells Center for Pediatric Research and also to bedside care at Riley Hospital. IUDM now helps kids in the state of Indiana and helps save the lives of children around the world through the research at the Wells Center for Pediatric Research.
Why do I dance?
I dance because Riley Hospital for Children saved the lives of two of my best friends. Katie is one of my best friends from Carmel who has Juvenal rheumatoid arthritis. Without Riley Hospital for Children she would have gone blind and would not be able to walk. Thankfully, due to her treatment at Riley, she has the ability to walk and has perfect vision! Henry, my other friend who has been saved by Riley, is a type one diabetic. When he was an infant he was taken to Riley Hospital for Children because doctors noticed that his blood sugar was in the 900 level. Without Riley Hospital he would have slipped into a coma and who knows what the outcome would have been. Today, Henry is on the executive council for IUDM with me and continues to pay forward everything that Riley Hospital has given him.
Riley Hospital for Children and IUDM have been a gigantic influence on my high school and college experiences. This year I have set my fundraising goal at $3,000 which is just under $1,000 more than what I raised last year. I would appreciate it so much if you donated any amount to my page in order to help the children at Riley Hospital for Children and around the world. Thank you so much for visiting my fundraising page and learning more about IUDM and my experiences with Riley Hospital for Children. At IUDM we have the chance of a lifetime, to give a lifetime of chance. I hope you support me in my fundraising efforts.
