"I CAN DO ALL THINGS IN CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME"
Ball State University Dance Marathon has had an important role in the development of my love for fundraising and giving back to those who need it. Everyone deserves the opportunity to dance, and we are doing all we can to grant the patients at Riley Hospital for Children that opportunity!
This year, I am very excited to be taking my role in this organization further as the Director of Accounting for BSUDM 2020. My experience in this organization the last 3 years have been life-changing. I have grown as an individual and as a leader, establish connections and bonds that I will continue to charish for years to come. I am beyond excited to celebrate my LAST year surrounded by many other passionate and driven individuals in the community. BSUDM strives every day to grow our fundraising efforts, our relationships with others, and our love for what we do, and I am very excited to see where this year will lead me and my fellow exec and committee members.
Why do I DM?
I DM because Sam Featherstone lit a match in my heart to give back all that I can. In his sophomore year of high school, doctors found a brain tumor implanted in Sam's brain. From there on out he juggled hospital visits, treatments, and school work and was able to graduate as Valedictorian of his class in 2012. Though he was under negative circumstances, Sam continued to push himself and stay positive through his entire journey. Sam Featherstone lost his battle in January 2013. However, before he past, he came and spoke to the students at Reitz Memorial High School. At the time, I was a freshman listening to a man who had endured so much in a short amount of time. He inspired every student in the crowd to not take any moment for granted and to give back all that you can. His words, his inspiration, and his legacy continue to push me to do all that I can for those who do not have the opportunity, and I am proud to know he lives in my heart, as well as all the other students, friends, and family he was around.
I also DM because every Riley family, patient, and employees deserve to be supported. Riley Hospital for Children has made such a difference in the Indiana community, and their love, support, and miracles instill hope in all that walk through the doors.
What do we fundraise for?
Ball State University Dance Marathon is the sole providor for both the Palliative Care Team and the Magic Castle Cart at Riley Hospital for Children. Both of these units are critical to the patients, whether it is providing support to the family or creating a big and beautiful smile for the patient. BSUDM is proud to provide to these two very different and very crucial programs in the hospital.
