Haiti is a hard place to live; the mountain terrain is challenging to climb and the hot, dusty weather can be unbearable. Rough terrain and growing children makes shoes an imperative and constant need for the children in our program. Your donation will purchase a child in restavek a pair of shoes for the school year. It will also help protect them from parasites and other diseases that can be contracted by walking on bare feet.

Often children living in restavek will walk their host families' children to school, carrying their books and backpacks, never entering a classroom themselves. Having a backpack to carry books and supplies of their very own tells them that they are important; they are loved.

Quality medical care, medications and supplies are hard to come by in Haiti. Your gift ensures that a child living in restavek will receive the best medical care possible and the medication they need to heal.

Transportation in Haiti can be long and laborious depending on weather conditions and traffic patterns. Often, our advocates must travel long and far distances in order to meet with the children in their care. Occasionally, it can take a full day to travel to and from a child's home. Your gift will provide transportation for an advocate to provide support for a child.

Tutoring can be very helpful for a child who is struggling with their education, often because the have never had access to education or they have never had family or outside support while being forced to work as a domestic slave. Your support will ensure a child who needs it most will receive tutoring and help.

Children in restavek are often forgotten by their host families. Many of them wear ill-fitting items of clothing that have been handed down, person to person, throughout the family. Your donation will give them the opportunity to not only have a new school uniform, but basic casual clothing as well.
