Stories from our Community

Dr. Elizabeth Kline

Spotlight on

Elizabeth Kline, MD, Thoracic Surgery

“At age 50 I went into the ER with horrible stomach pains. A CT scan revealed my gallbladder was infected and had to be removed. The scan also revealed a tumor on my left lung. My pulmonologist did a biopsy and referred me to Dr. Elizabeth Kline and her team. It was the scariest experience of my life. The professionalism and compassion shown by Dr. Kline and her team was unbelievable. I love how she does everything in such a "team" approach. She made sure all of my doctors were included and sent them notes to make sure they were all working together, so I would receive the best care possible. Dr. Kline and her team are awesome! I will be forever grateful and today I am cancer-free!”

Dr. Jeffrey Rieder

Spotlight on

Jeffrey Rieder, MD, Cardiovascular Disease, Interventional Cardiology

“This recognition of Dr. Jeffrey Rieder is long overdue but well-deserved. In September 2022, I developed minor chest pain while performing yard work. The pain quickly escalated, my wife called 911 and EMS confirmed that I was having a myocardial infarction. The medics radioed the Roper St. Francis ER and a Code STEMI was initiated. I was transported directly to the cardiac cath lab by EMS where Dr. Jeffrey Rieder was already prepped and awaiting my arrival. Dr. Rieder was able to quickly open my occluded proximal LAD lesion (AKA the Widow Maker!) and place a stent. As a result of his skill and expertise, I had very little cardiac muscle injury. I recovered quickly and was soon able to return to my practice of medicine as a Roper Express Care physician. My family and I are so very grateful to Dr. Jeffrey Rieder, and to members of the Roper coronary care team, for saving my life.”

Crimson Sanders

Spotlight on

Crimson Sanders, Emergency Medicine

“difference maker [dif-er-uhns mey-ker] noun
A dedicated person who can make a big impact even with just a small action or a few words. someone who improves the lives of others. one who rallies or encourages others to propel themselves forward and bring about change. Crimson Sanders is the epitome of the two words difference maker. My mom was taken to the hospital for what we thought was a fainting spell. A heart monitor was placed, and she was sent home from the ER. We were eating lunch and what we thought was fainting happened again. My mom's heart had stopped beating. She was admitted and the following day received a pacemaker. Crimson was truly an angel. Her bedside is one that is to be modeled and her knowledge of whatever came up was spot on! She had such a calming effect, and I will always be so very grateful to Roper St. Francis for hiring this very special young lady! There are not enough words to express how grateful I truly am for her.”
