Supporting Samaritans and Remembering Joe
When my brother Joe died from suicide this January, our family was devastated. Our friends and family rallied around us in heroic ways, and we sought out support to figure out how to go on. I found this group, Samaritans, an organization in Boston that supports suicide survivors and educates the public about suicide. Since March, I've attended a grief group there and it has been a rock of support. I decided to participate in this fundraiser to pay forward that help.
The group does many good things, including:
Answer over 80,000 HelpLine calls yearly and 500 HelpLine text conversations monthly from people struggling with despair, depression or who just need to talk.
Reach 20,000 individuals with education on suicide risks and prevention strategies.
Support over 1,100 survivors of suicide loss.
I'm also participating as a way to honor and remember Joe. I miss him every day.
