Asya's Friends and Family
Welcome to Asya's Friends and Family fundraising webpage in support of the Samaritans 5K on Saturday, September 29! This will be the 20th annual 5K Run/Walk for Suicide prevetion. The goal of the race to raise funds and promote awareness for Samaritans, a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing the incidents of suicide in Greater Boston and Metrowest. I'm a captain of the team and participate in this fundrasing event every years since 2006.
I did not know how tragic and devastating suicide was until my beautiful 17-year-old daughter Asya, took her life in a moment of depression that she could not handle alone on October 21, 2005. In fact, parents are frequently oblivious to the danger of mental illness of our teenage children. Asya seemed to be a normal teenager who loved movies, fantasy novels, sports, and dreamed of writing screenplays.
It is impossible to bring Asya back, but it is still possible to help other people who are desperate, depressed, and need someone to talk to--just to feel that they are not alone in this world. Depression is horrible illness that is hard to prevent, but suicide is preventable. Sometimes, just one conversation can save a human life. The life line, provided by Samaritans volunteers, supports people who is depressed and also support survivors who left behind after a family member or friend commits suicide.
I ask you to sponsor my efforts in meeting my fundraising goal so that Samaritans volunteers continue helping people. Thank you so much for your support! You are helping to save lives!
