Life, Death, and Jewish Wisdom with Shomer Collective

Date:
Sunday, December 8, 2024
Time:
10:00 AM - 2:15 PM
Location:
Dell JCC
We often say, "there are no words"—but Jewish tradition offers a wealth of them for grief.
Join Shalom Austin Jewish Family Service and the Shomer Collective for two days of discovering the Jewish vocabulary of life, grief, and death.

In the first session Sunday, December 8 (10:00am-11:15am), How to Talk With Children (and Others) About Death, Dying, and Hard Stuff, parents and community members will gain insights into having age-appropriate, meaningful conversations with children using both child development principles and Jewish wisdom.

Our second Sunday session (1:00pm-2:15pm), Life and Death Through Jewish Texts explore Jewish teachings on death, from Torah to modern thinkers. This day of learning is open to all, regardless of background, and is designed to foster deeper connections and understanding around life’s most profound transitions

On Monday December 9 (9:00 am -10:15 am) our session, What Does a Good Day Look Like? End-of-Life Conversations in a Jewish Context will focus on how to begin or deepen discussions with clients and/or loved ones about death, dying, and quality of life, including healthcare decisions consonant with Jewish values.

Please consider a voluntary donation of $18.00 in support of Jewish Family Service.
