Hello!

Today I registered to the Denver Area Walk for Sjogren's and I need your help to raise funds.  Don't worry, the walk is going to be virtual this year!  We can all go for a walk in our own neighborhoods or even choose not to walk at all, but you can make a difference no matter what you choose!  I had origionally wanted to build a team for this event - given the circumstances, each of you can be on my "team"!  This is really exciting because we have an opportunity to raise awareness and fund that go toward research and patient support. 

What is Sjögren's?  

*Sjögren's ("SHOW-grins") is a systemic autoimmune disease that affects the entire body. As a systemic disease, affecting the entire body, symptoms may remain steady or worsen overtime. There is no one single progression of the disease and this can make it challenging for patients and their physicians. While some people experience mild discomfort, others suffer debilitating symptoms that greatly impair their functioning. Early diagnosis and proper treatments are important as they may prevent serious complications and greatly improve a patient's quality of life.

*About half of the time Sjögren's occurs alone, and the other half it occurs in the presence of another autoimmune connective tissue disease such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, or Scleroderma.

*In addition, Sjögren's is often misrepresented as a rare disease, however it is estimated that there are four million Americans living with this disease, making it one of the most prevalent autoimmune diseases.

I was diagnosed with Sjögren's nearly seven years ago.

Some of the symptoms of Sjögren's that I experience include extreem dryness, pain in my joints, migraines, fatigue, trouble concentrating, and asnomia. Asnomia is the loss of smell which for me also effects my ability to taste. It's a real pain to try to cook when you cant smell what you are cooking ;).
