Please Defend Bears Ears National Monument
Dear [Decision Maker],
I applaud the historic action by President Obama to designate the Bears Ears National Monument in Utah. This proclamation safeguards one of the most significant cultural landscapes in the United States, honors Tribal Nations with ancestral ties to the region, protects clean water and wildlife habitat, and ensures visitors will always be able to enjoy Bears Ears' world class scenery.
This proclamation marks the first time in the 110 year history of the Antiquities Act that Native American Tribes -- the Hopi, Navajo, Ute Mountain Ute, Zuni, and Ute Indian Tribe -- joined together to ask the president to designate a national monument. That President Obama has honored their request marks a significant moment of healing for past injustices suffered by Native Americans.
Unfortunately, there are some politicians, who despite agreeing that Bears Ears is worthy of protection, have suggested that they may seek to undo this historic proclamation.
