Please leave Utah's national monuments intact!
Dear [Decision Maker],
I'm writing to urge you to leave Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears National Monuments intact. These monuments are widely supported across the country and in Utah, and preserve extraordinary parts of our natural, scientific and cultural heritage.
Over the last 20 years, Grand Staircase-Escalante has claimed its place as a crown jewel equal to Utah's national parks. The monument is world renowned for its remarkable paleontological discoveries, stunning scenery, and outstanding recreational opportunities. Local communities have benefited with significant increases in tourism, new businesses, population growth, and higher per capita income. And polls consistently demonstrate strong support for the monument, including by Utah citizens.
Bears Ears is Utah's newest national monument and promises similar benefits. As the first ever national monument designated at the request of a coalition of Native American Tribes, it also provides a special opportunity to heal our nation and bring the stories and traditional knowledge of Native Americans into our system of protected lands.
As the steward of our nation's public lands, please do justice to these treasured monuments and leave them fully protected.
