Why Give?

Excellent healthcare doesn't just happen. When a community supports the work of its doctors and nurses, healthcare goes from good to great. Because of donations from people like you, breast cancer patients at Carolinas HealthCare System have advocates who help them understand their options. Children have a new hospital with plenty of room to play. ALS patients have a new clinic with one of the country's top specialists. And much more. Every dollar you give goes to help patients and develop new treatments in the Carolinas. Won't you consider making a gift? Excellent healthcare starts with you.

Jackson's story

On January 24, 2010, my world was turned upside down after a quick phone call to the doctor’s office. What we thought would be a simple diagnosis of constipation turned into an emergency trip to Levine Children’s Hospital, a CT scan, and a confirmed diagnosis of Stage IV Hepatoblastoma (liver cancer) that had metastasized to both of my lungs.

It’s amazing how life can change that fast.  In the first year of my fight, I underwent 11 rounds of chemotherapy, lung surgery to remove the remaining tumor masses, and a liver transplant, by August of 2010, I was declared cancer free.

Unfortunately, my journey is far from over…On February 24, 2011 it was determined that the cancer had returned to my lungs.  I underwent a second lung surgery in June 2011, and additional chemotherapy, and remained in remission for 6 months until December 2011 when again the cancer had returned to my lungs for a third time. I underwent radiation on my lungs and received 7 more rounds of chemotherapy until May 2012, when the doctors once again declared me to be cancer free...where I PRAY I will stay.

The Jackson Laskowski Keep HOPE Alive Fund was created to help assist my family as well as other families who are struggling to fight cancer head on amidst the emotional and financial battles that are waged daily as the war on cancer takes it toll.

We hope you can join us on September 16th for the 7th Annual Keep HOPE Alive Gala.  Please select your sponsorship level below.
