Family & Friends,
I want to first thank you for taking the time to learn more about my NYC Marathon journey with Tedy’s Team. The fact that you’re here means so much to me!
Since I moved to New York in 2017, running the NYC Marathon has always been something I’ve wanted to accomplish. I've always felt like Marathon Sunday in November is, hands down, the best day to be in New York City as it brings together runners from across the world (over 50,000!) and creates an energy that embodies the spirit of NYC. While I've always enjoyed watching the race from the sidelines, it wasn't until Marathon Sunday in 2023 that I decided to finally start my journey towards running the race in 2024.
After making the decision, I knew that I wanted to partner with a charity related to stroke awareness and prevention, something near and dear to my heart. I spent countless hours researching various foundations and when I came across Tedy's Team and their mission, I immediately knew it was the perfect match.
Those closest to me know that my family and I have been impacted by stroke in an immense and devastating way. My dad, Jeff Manis, suffered a stroke in October 2011 and passed away as I was starting my freshman year of college at the University of Tennessee. It was sudden, unexpected, and it shocked our entire family. It was the hardest period of my life, but I'm incredibly fortunate for the many lessons my dad taught me, like the importance of working hard, being kind, fostering relationships, giving back to the community, and putting family first.
My marathon journey will be devoted to honoring and remembering my dad, while fundraising for an incredible foundation that raises awareness of the signs and symptoms of stroke and heart disease. The funds raised will be used for research grants, educational programs, and survivor assistance. My goal is to raise $7,500 and every single donation counts!
I think about my dad every day and I know that he will be with me every step of the way on November 3rd, especially miles 22-23 pushing uphill on 5th Avenue towards the finish!!
Thank you again for taking time to read my story and learning more about Tedy’s Team! Your support and encouragement mean the world to me!
-Jason
