Dear [Decision Maker],

I am writing to you as a constituent deeply concerned about the impact understaffing has on nursing home residents. I urge you to support the implementation of nursing home staffing standards.

Currently, there are no federal regulations requiring a minimum staffing level in nursing homes. Existing regulations only require "sufficient" staff and facilities are left to decide what is sufficient. As a result, too many residents are not having even their most basic needs met, because there aren't enough staff to assist them.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has committed to proposing a minimum staffing standard rule by March 2023. Please encourage CMS to create and implement a strong, clear staffing regulation.

Creating a baseline or floor below which staffing levels cannot go is essential to ensure that all residents, regardless of where they live, are guaranteed at least a certain level of care. I am asking you to support the implementation of staffing standards and hold facilities accountable for the care they provide and the money they receive.

Sincerely,
