Tell Congress to Include Protections for Nursing Home Residents in the Build Back Better Act

We need your help!  Advocates for nursing home residents have been fighting tirelessly to include important protections for nursing home residents in the Build Back Better Act.  The House version of the bill currently includes five important provisions that would address staffing shortages, inadequate oversight and enforcement, accuracy in data submitted to the federal government by nursing homes, and increased scrutiny on how nursing homes spend billions of dollars in taxpayer money each year.

However, the nursing home industry is lobbying hard to remove these provisions, particularly provisions requiring that facilities have a registered nurse on staff 24 hours per day and the requirement that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services conduct a study and promulgate regulations regarding a minimum staffing standard.  Despite ample evidence that inadequate staffing contributed to the over 186,000 deaths in long-term care facilities, the industry is pulling out all the stops to prevent these provisions from being implemented.

Congress needs to hear from residents, families, and their advocates, who know how devastating continued inaction will be on nursing home residents.  The nursing home lobby is one of the most powerful in Washington, but we cannot let them drown out the voices of those who will suffer if these provisions are not passed.

Please use the form below to tell your Members of Congress to protect our nation’s most vulnerable citizens and to place the safety and well-being of nursing home residents over the profits of the nursing home industry.
