2018 Chicago Workplace Campaign
Dear Colleagues,
It is with great pleasure that I serve as your CPS-UNCF Honorary campaign chairperson this year. Through the years, we have provided a great deal of support to aide our students in their transition from high school through college and many of our students are now college graduates who are working and contributing members of their communities thanks to the hard work of dedicated Chicagoans like yourself.
In 1970, a small group of CPS employees started a small campaign to raise money for the UNCF. This cash campaign raised $7,000 in its first year and after decades of hard work, the campaign has blossomed. We have successfully generated more than $15 million providing nearly 2,000 students with full or partial scholarships to attend UNCF schools, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other accredited universities.
The key ingredient in the success of this campaign has been the support of the CPS employees, who volunteer their time, talent, and financial support for UNCF. Since the very beginning, this campaign has been driven by an incredible network of dedicated volunteers from the steering committee, network administrative teams and, most importantly, the local school and department coordinators.
The school and department coordinators, supported by their principals, department heads and Network chiefs, are the backbone of the campaign. They do the important and necessary work of coordinating events, and facilitating fundraisers. These volunteers are the reason why nearly 2,000 CPS graduates are able to attend and afford a higher education. This work changes lives.
“A mind is a terrible thing to waste,” but a wonderful thing to invest in!
Once again, thank you for your support of the CPS-UNCF campaign. Your continued support will ensure that this success continues.
Sincerely,
Janice K. Jackson, EdD
