Petition: Support a statewide paid family & medical leave program

The United States remains one of the only countries in the world that does not guarantee paid family and medical leave to its citizens, and only 11% of U.S. workers are provided paid leave through their employers. Yet we know that this causes enormous health and financial stresses on ourselves and our families; over 40% of bankruptcies in the U.S. result from lost income when an employee or their family member becomes ill.

VPIRG and the VT FaMLI Coalition support a statewide family and medical leave insurance program that would:

  • Give all Vermonters paid time off care for a new child or loved one;
  • Promote economic security for women & families;
  • Level the playing field for Vermont’s small businesses; and
  • Help address Vermont’s shortage of regulated child care for infants.

Help us guarantee paid family and medical leave in Vermont by signing on to our campaign!

We, the undersigned, support a statewide paid family and medical leave insurance program.

Paid leave has been shown to:

- Increase benefits to infant and child health;
- Increase benefits to maternal physical and mental health;
- Increase economic and work security for women and families; and
- Increase the ability of small employers to attract and retain quality employees in Vermont.

We hope you will support H.107, an act relating to paid family leave.
