These jewel-like birds are a common sight in most backyard gardens, and live year-round in California. Once breeding only in Baja and Southern California, human planting of exotic flowers and trees has greatly expanded their breeding range.
Male Anna's Hummingbirds have irridescent red throats and foreheads, and will often sing loudly with a buzzy, scratchy series of squeaking phrases. They may also frequently be seen dive-bombing other hummingbirds and sometimes people too.
WildCare treats dozens of hummingbirds in our wildlife hospital. Orphaned baby hummingbirds are some of our most demanding patients-- requiring food every twenty minutes from dawn until dusk.
