Two different cancer diagnoses have taught me important lessons.

The first is that cancer doesn’t define me. It’s part of my life, not all of my life, and I wake up every day looking forward to what I can do, not what I can’t.

The second is that the first wouldn’t be possible without people like you who give to Wellspring Calgary… because it’s thanks to you that I and hundreds of others have access to free programs that make such a positive difference in our lives.

So it’s with deep gratitude that I share my story – and ask you to support an organization whose impact is nothing short of life changing.

Yes! I want to make a difference in someone's life every day

I was diagnosed with small lymphocytic lymphoma in 2009. I was scared, tired, overwhelmed… and felt so alone. Walking through Wellspring’s doors, I instantly felt like I had “come home.” While I didn’t know what the future would bring, I knew these people would support and encourage me.

Looking back, I remember thinking I couldn’t possibly take part in any programs because I felt so exhausted. But gradually these programs became my lifeline to feeling stronger, healthier and more secure.

Everyone experiences cancer differently, and there’s no “one size fits all” for what each of us needs. What helps someone today might help another tomorrow. What gets one person through a rough patch may not be ideal for someone else.

Your donation makes a wide range of programs available – letting people choose what’s best for each of us, when we need it.

After my diagnosis, for example, it was hard to sleep. The Meditation program helped me relax and get past my worries. In fact, both my doctor and my oncologist were amazed at how much better I was doing. Not only did I look better, my blood work was better!

When you donate today, you support an essential, comprehensive array of programs. You help more than one. You help everyone!

In 2014, my life was turned upside down by a second cancer diagnosis. Hearing that I had uterine cancer (totally unrelated to my other cancer) was a shock. But this time I knew how much I could rely on Wellspring.

Your gift makes the right programs accessible… at the right time… in the right place.

Photography lets me use the healing power of creativity to make beautiful images and get outside my cancer. In the company of others who “get it,” I can speak freely, without overburdening my family and friends.

Journalling gives me a medium to express myself, and even share a laugh to break the seriousness of cancer. Healthy Steps gets me moving to keep the swelling down.

Others find programs that work for them, such as Money Matters to help ease financial concerns. Everyone can find what they need to make life better.

If the value of your gift isn’t already obvious, let me add that there’s one more… you make it possible for Wellspring to expand into south Calgary.

When roads are bad, or work or family commitments squeeze time, being able to get to programs is critically important. Thanks to donors who truly open doors, Wellspring has an inviting temporary location in the southern part of the city (in Fountain Court) which is open now – and plans are underway for a permanent second home in Seton!

Having easier access enables me and countless others to be healthier, more con dent, more hopeful and more able to focus on what matters in life – all thanks to you.

And just as we rely on Wellspring, Wellspring relies on you.

On behalf of everyone who knows the healing power of Wellspring – the healing power of your support – thank you. Please donate today.

With gratitude,
