Puppy ABC's Class
Milwaukee Campus

A dog training class for puppies under five months old.

This date is the start date of a six-week class. Puppy ABC’s classes meet for 50 minutes every week on the same day and time for six consecutive weeks. An enrollment fee is required for each dog at the time of registration.

Did your puppy come with an instruction manual?  Do you have questions?  Find the answers in the Puppy ABC’s class at the Wisconsin Humane Society - Milwaukee Campus located at 4500 W. Wisconsin Avenue.

Learn positive techniques and activities to motivate your puppy and build his or her confidence... and yours!

Our classes use reward based training techniques - teaching you how to use a clicker for training and reinforcement.  Puppies are taught in a positive learning environment where they have fun and are successful!

During this six-week session, we cover everything from potty training to basic obedience skills:

  • Save your carpets! – A lesson in housetraining
  • I am NOT a toy! Learning appropriate chewing skills and overcoming mouthing
  • Life Skills - Reducing inappropriate behaviors (reducing excessive jumping, barking or stealing items they shouldn't)
  • Introduction to obedience cues (Come, Sit, Down, etc.)
  • Do's and Don'ts of “puppy play”
  • Confidence building exercises – For both you and your puppy
  • Puppy relaxation techniques

This class is a great primer for our Dog Manners Class for dogs over 5 months of age.

Families are welcome but the actual handlers must be at least 18 years old. Children under 8 are not allowed to attend. We limit classes to 10 puppies and provide an Instructor and Assistant for all classes resulting in a ratio of 1 person to 5 puppies.

Puppies do not attend on the first day of class.

Social dogs only, please!! Dogs that have shown any prior aggression to other dogs or people are NOT allowed in the group class setting under any circumstances (including if you already paid for the class). Aggression cannot be addressed in this venue; you will not get the attention you deserve and it puts others at risk. Please call us for private training to get the best behavior program for your companion.

VACCINATIONS: All dogs need to be current on Distemper (at least two of the series of three), and Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccines before the first class. Be sure to bring your puppy's vaccination records with you to the first class! Please check your records because even if you adopted from us, you may not have all the vaccinations needed for class. Dogs will not be able to participate in class without proper vaccination records - no exceptions.

If you decide not to attend the class date in which you are registered your payment will be used for the animals in our non-profit facility. If you are uncertain whether our classes will meet your expectations, you are welcome to sit in on a class (without your dog) before you pay. Just give us a call!

If you miss the first class you will not be able to continue. The foundation for the six-week session is laid in Class 1 and therefore must be attended in order to continue class.

If you are a volunteer at the Wisconsin Humane Society or have additional questions, please call Nora Hart at 414-431-6156.
