Shy Dog Class
Milwaukee Campus

Thank you for your interest in Shy Dog Class at the Wisconsin Humane Society - Milwaukee Campus located at 4500 W. Wisconsin Avenue!

This class is designed for fearful dogs of all ages. We will work on training and management techniques to support the care of fearful dogs. The goal of this class is to optimize the comfort of the fearful dogs in our care. We will utilize positive reinforcement-based training techniques with each dog as we work to address their needs and practice behavior change processes.

This class is not designed for dogs exhibiting aggression or dogs who are excessively vocal or barky. Aggression cannot be addressed in this venue; you will not get the attention you deserve and it puts others at risk. If you are unsure if this class is an appropriate fit for your dog, you can reach out to our instructor at sstein@wihumane.org with a brief history and summary of your dog's fearful behavior.

Please note: dogs do not attend week one of class, the first session is for humans only. Dogs will attend the subsequent five weeks of class with their handlers.

This date is the start date of a six-week class. Shy Dog Classes meet for 50 minutes every week on the same day and time for 6 consecutive weeks.

Our experienced instructors make training your dog a fun and rewarding experience for people AND dogs!  In this class, we will work on building the foundation for handler focus, coming when called and loose leash walking. We will also work on providing positive socialization experiences with novel objects, spaces, people and other puppies. Each week we will allow time to discuss and offer support on common training challenges such as potty training, chewing, mouthing, and exuberant or fearful behaviors

VACCINATIONS: All puppies need to be current on  Distemper, and Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccines before the first class. Be sure to bring your dog's vaccination records with you to the first class! Please check your records because even if you adopted from us, you may not have all the vaccinations needed for class. Dogs will not be able to participate in class without proper vaccination records - no exceptions.

COVID protocols:

We are limiting class sizes to 7 dogs.

Only 1 person per dog may attend class (we will send you home with handouts for each exercise and email video links as needed for additonal support).

Masks must be worn in the building at all times.

Chairs, doorknobs, counters, and common surfaces will be disinfected in between classes.
