Is Pet Walk cancelled?
No. Pet Walk 2020 will still happen on June 20! Yes, we're still running and walking with thousands of passionate animal lovers, but instead of gathering at Veterans Park, we'll be celebrating this year's event virtually.
Where will Virtual Pet Walk be held? In your neighborhood, around the block, or on your treadmill! Pet Walk 2020 is virtual, so animal lovers can complete their "race" wherever they'd like!
What is a virtual walk?
It's a walk on your own terms! Whether you walk around the block, around the entire neighborhood, or walk in place on your treadmill, you'll be making a difference for animals. You'll be part of a virtual movement of animal lovers who are all walking (or running) to support the animals who need our help.
Why is Pet Walk 2020 virtual?
In response to COVID-19 concerns about the health and safety of our community, staff and volunteers, the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) will be hosting the 2020 Pet Walk virtually.
This means we’re inviting animal lovers to join us virtually on June 20 for a walk or run in their neighborhood or even on a treadmill, to support WHS.
Pet Walk is one of the largest fundraisers of the year for WHS, and going “virtual” does not change the importance of such a community-supported event. We're counting on our supporters now more than ever to ensure that we can continue to provide lifesaving care to the animals who need us most.
While we may not be physically walking together on Saturday, June 20, we can still stand together to support the needs of animals and their families, especially during this difficult time. Animal lovers like you can still change lives by supporting this year’s Virtual Pet Walk.
Have the registration fees changed?
Yes! Registration fees for the 2020 Virtual Pet Walk are now waived (FREE) so everyone can join us in the digital movement to support animals in our community. Participants who raise $50 or more* will earn their Pet Walk t-shirt - view all fundraising prizes here.
*If you already registered with the original registration fees, you will receive your T-shirt as a small token of our gratitude for supporting the event early.
What happens to my registration fee if I registered before the change to virtual?
Those who paid a registration fee before Pet Walk went virtual will still receive their Pet Walk T-shirt as a token of gratitude for signing on to support the event early, so the $50 fundraising minimum to receive the T-shirt will not apply to them. How long is the virtual run/walk?
You choose the distance! Whether you walk or run around the block, around the entire neighborhood, or at home on your treadmill, you’ll be making a difference for animals. Plus, you’ll be part of a virtual movement of animal lovers who are all walking to support animals. A virtual walk means you can set your own pace and distance while making a difference, so no required distance.
HOW DO I REGISTER?
You can register as an individual or you can create or join a team.
Teams are simply made up of two or more people who want to compete for our top team prizes, as well as awesome individual fundraising prizes!
Registration fees are now waived, so it's easier than ever to sign up for Pet Walk! Everyone who registers gets a Pet Walk web page you can personalize with pictures and stories of you and your furry friends. It's easy to earn great prizes by collecting donations for animals in need!
Looking for something great to do with a group? Start a team with your friends, co-workers or family! Your team can compete for one of our top team prizes and each team member can also win individual prizes. Can I register by mail?
Yes. For those who aren't able to register online, download our Offline Registration Form here and fill one out for each person registering for the event. Send this form, along with your registration fee and any donations to:

What do you do with the money raised from Pet Walk?
100% of the proceeds from Pet Walk go right back to helping the 40,000 animals that WHS cares for every year. Because of your support for events like Pet Walk, every adoptable animal has as long as it takes to find a home, regardless of time or space. WHS does not receive general government funding. We are funded through the generous support of community-minded companies, foundations, and caring individuals and through special events like Pet Walk.
Can I raise money offline (checks and cash) even if I sign up online?
Absolutely! Every participant can choose their preferred fundraising format. You can send your cash and check donations directly to WHS and we'll enter the donations in your participant center for you. Just be sure to record names, addresses and amount for these donations on our pledge form so that we can track them properly and include them on your fundraising web page. Do I still qualify for fundraising prizes?
Yes! Prizes start for those who raise $50 or more and can be found on our prize page here.
How do I collect my fundraising prizes?
We are working on prize pick-up details and will know more in the coming weeks. Watch your email and the Pet Walk website for more information leading up to the walk.
What's the deadline to collect donations to earn prizes?
Because Pet Walk is virtual this year, participants can still qualify for prizes for donations they collect through the end of June.
Is donating online safe and secure?
You can donate without worry knowing that we partner with the online fundraising experts at Luminate Online to ensure the safest and most secure transactions possible.
Can you change the recognition name of a donation I’ve already made?
Yes. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org so that we can credit donations to the proper person.
Should we still create teams for a virtual event?
Definitely! Those happy hour calls, friends and family video calls, and virtual work meetings are great opportunities to ask others to join your team for Virtual Pet Walk! After all, how many times have your pets interrupted your video calls in the last few weeks? Many people are looking for positive ways to engage with their community and the people they're used to seeing every day, and coming together (while apart) to support a charity you care about is a great way to help everyone join in something bigger than themselves and feel good.
How many people make up a team?
Two or more people are required to form a team.
I registered as an individual but now would like to join or create a team. What do I do?

How are the prizes distributed to me if I’m part of a team?
Prizes are distributed based on individual fundraising accomplishments, regardless of whether or not you are on a team.
