On June 20, the Senate failed to pass the Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Terrorists Act (Feinstein Amendment – S.Amdt.4720) and Fix Gun Checks Act (Murphy Amendment – S.Amdt.4691), but the fight is not over!
Congress must come together to enact substantive and comprehensive gun safety legislation—addressing background checks, access to the most dangerous weapons and ammunition, waiting periods, volume sales, and the issue of mental health in this country. Hadassah continues to advocate for the Feinstein and Murphy Amendments, which would prevent suspected terrorists from purchasing guns, and strengthen the National Instant Criminal Background Check System to ensure that all firearm sales are subject to this process.
Hadassah has long been a strong supporter of strict
legislative gun control initiatives in the United States. In response to tragic
attack in Orlando—one of the worst mass shootings in American history—Hadassah National President Ellen Hershkin released the following statement:
"We mourn for the victims of the Orlando shooting—an act
of terrorism and hate here in America. . . . Current laws do not go far enough,
nor are enforced rigorously enough, to help prevent gun violence. . . . Hadassah
urges legislators at all levels to enact stronger gun control to protect our
citizens, our communities and our nation.” Click

Express your disappointment and urge your legislators to press for common-sense gun safety legislation.
