Dance Video Instructions

  1. Identify the people you want to challenge. We like challenging 3 but feel free to challenge as many as you want!

  2. Confirm with the people you are challenging that they are willing to take the ALS Dance Challenge. The only way we can keep this going is if people keep taking the challenge.

  3. Find a way to work the letters ALS into your video (i.e. use one of our Instagram filters (coming soon - details in FAQs) make the letters with your arms, hang a sign in the background, wear shirts that say ALS, include text on your post, etc.)

  4. Record your ALS Dance Challenge video. Don’t forget to challenge your friends

  5. Add the song “(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty” by KC and the Sunshine Band to your video. If you are planning to post on TikTok, you should film your video on TikTok first and then post the video on other social media platforms. See “If I am planning to post on TikTok…” in the FAQs for more details.

  6. Post your video on social media. Make sure you include #ALSDanceChallenge #FightForG #EndALS and "Donate at als.org/ALSDanceChallenge" in your post. We also recommend tagging the person who challenged you, the people you are challenging, and the FightForG account.

  7. Share the videos of the people you challenged! The more people who see our videos the more likely they are to donate and make their own!

FAQs

  • What if I can’t dance?

    • That’s ok! We can’t either.

  • Who can I challenge?

    • Anyone! This is a global campaign open to people of all ages.

  • Can I have more than one person in my video?

    • The more the merrier!

  • Can I make more than one video?

    • Absolutely! The more videos you make, the more awareness we can bring to ALS and the more money we can raise for research.

  • How long should my video be?

    • About 15 - 60 seconds but feel free to make it longer!

  • What social media platform should I use?

    • Whichever one you like! You can even post the same video on multiple platforms.

  • How do I add the song?

    • You can add the song directly in the TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube app.

  • If I am planning to post on TikTok, why do I need to record on TikTok first?

    • TikTok only has a license to a specific 60 seconds of the song whereas YouTube, and Instagram have the license to the entire song. To avoid licensing issues on TikTok, only sound from that specific 60 seconds can be used on TikTok. By recording the video on TikTok first, you can make sure you are using the right part of the song. When you upload a copy of your video to other platforms, which part of the song you use will not be an issue because they have a license to the entire song.

  • Is there anything else I can post on social media to help my followers learn about the challenge?

    • We created an intro video that explains the challenge and why we are doing it. The video will be posted on May 1st. In the meantime, we will be sharing some teaser content on our social media pages.

  • Why does my YouTube video say there are copyright restrictions?

    • The song “Shake Your Booty” cannot be played on videos in Belarus and Russia. As a result, your video will show a copyright message. Please note, if you include other songs or sounds from movies or TV shows these could also contribute to your video having a copyright notice.

  • You mentioned an Instagram filter.

    • To make it easier to incorporate the letters ALS into your video, we are creating several Instagram filters you can add to your video. More details will be shared in the near future.
